Corrugated Roofing Sheet

Macsteel, a trader and distributor of steel and value-added steel products, has raised the flag of South Africa by using its groundbreaking technology to break the world record for the longest roof span covered by a single piece of corrugated metal sheet.
In collaboration with Tate & Nicholson, Fortress, Pick n Pay and WBHO, Macsteel rolls of roofing elements form the world’s longest continuous corrugated metal roofing sheet. It spans the widest part of the 280m wide roof covering the new flagship Pick n Pay distribution center in Kempton Park.
The world record attempt was completed on May 25, breaking the previous 200m record. The attempt was submitted to Guinness World Records for certification, and the company received confirmation of the world record on May 30.
The groundbreaking technology that has enabled Macsteel to achieve this success is the innovative roofing product NOVOTEXI 440, which is molded on site using the industry-leading Sky Forming process.
Breaking the world record would have been much more difficult without the combination of these two Macsteel innovations.
NOVOTEXI 440 was designed by Macsteel to withstand high winds on large rooftops and solve the challenges engineers face by providing solutions to extreme weather conditions caused by climate change.
Mike Benfield, CEO of Macsteel, said: “We are excited to work with our partners on this development. Our spirit of renewal has always been the driving force behind our business strategy and has become the driving force behind our launch and management of customer interactions.”
Sky Forming is a unique solution that simplifies roofing work on large construction sites. As the name suggests, this is an innovative process in which the roll container producing NOVOTEXI 440 sheets is lifted to roof level for a seamless product application in height and speed. Designed to comply with Department of Labor safety requirements, Sky Forming enables Macsteel to provide differentiated services to stakeholders in the construction industry.
Macsteel has made innovation one of its key pillars for sustainability in a global and South African context. Influenced by economic difficulties over the past decade, Macsteel has focused on innovation to find more cost-effective solutions, which is a prerequisite for helping customers.
“An important part of our strategy is to focus on working with our customers in the early stages of a project to be able to provide strategic support from design to installation to provide our customers with efficient and cost effective steel solutions,” Benfield added.
“We understand the importance of staying agile and relevant, and the pursuit of reinvention means finding new ways to grow our business while enabling our clients to grow,” Benfield concluded.
At the May 25 briefing, Macsteel Roofing Group Product Specialist Dave Reid thanked all involved, adding that it would take the entire team to do this kind of work.
