Corrugated Roofing Sheet

GROSSE POINTE PARK – Just like a house periodically needs a new roof, so do municipal buildings. The structure in Grosse Pointe Park is now in need of replacement.
The Lavins Center at Windmill Pointe Park will soon receive a new roof to replace the old one, which city manager Nick Sizeland said was installed in 2003.
“Time to go,” Sizeland said, noting water leaks in places like the gym and movie theater.
The Grosse Point Park City Council unanimously approved a low price of $172,935 for the Schena Roofing & Sheet Metal project in Chesterfield Township at its Feb. 13 meeting. Sizeland said it provided $180,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for these costs.
Schena was one of three firms that applied for the work. Sizeland said public works director Tom Janney believed Shena would provide the “highest quality” roof for the building.
The city uses a rubberized polyurethane roof. Schena also offers a cheaper roofing option, Sizeland said, but the Public Works Department warned that it may require more maintenance and won’t match existing roofing materials.
The rubber roof is better suited to the extreme temperatures that Sizeland says the Lavins Center experiences.
“We’re not doing this just because he’s 20,” adviser Thomas Caulfield said. “Really needs a refurbishment.”
Schena provides a two-year roof warranty and a 20-year manufacturer’s warranty on labor and materials, Sizeland said. He said that Shena had experience installing such rubber roofs.
