399 cc inline four-cylinder engine liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16 valves, bore and stroke of 57.0 x 39.16 mm delivers impressive power and torque. Bore and stroke provide impressive maximum power. High Performance Electronic Control Box Similar to the one found on the Kawasaki Z H2, it allows the use of the latest Kawasaki electronics. Electronic Throttle Valve (ETV) with a 34mm throttle body allows the ECU to control the amount of fuel (through the injectors) and air (through the throttle) supplied to the engine, providing smooth and natural engine response. In addition, they help with Kawasaki’s electronic driver assistance systems, such as built-in traction control ride modes, selectable power modes, and Kawasaki’s bi-directional Quick Shifter (KQS), to make riders feel at one with their machine.
The inside of the air intake is molded from fine sand and has a smooth surface. Similar to the Ninja® ZX™-10R, the intake port outlet is machined in two steps, first with the valve seat and then angled again to create a straighter path for intake air as it enters the combustion chamber port. A straighter, wider intake tract results in smoother flow and a larger air/fuel mixture for improved engine performance. Lightweight forged camshafts contribute to high and high RPM operation.
Large 22.1mm intake valves are complemented by 19mm exhaust valves that move large volumes of air for outstanding high-rpm performance. Three-stage valve springs match the valves and enhance the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition’s high-rpm performance. Narrower valve angle improves combustion efficiency and provides a compact engine design. The combustion chambers are precision machined to high tolerances, a manufacturing technique limited to Kawasaki’s premium high performance models.
Lightweight cast aluminum pistons help reduce reciprocating weight for fast climbs. The piston skirt is molybdenum coated for extra durability. The piston crown is designed to create compression that contributes to the 12.3:1 compression ratio on the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition and is optimized to use regular gasoline while maintaining high performance. The wide piston bore makes it easy to use large intake and exhaust valves for more airflow, and their short stroke increases high-rpm performance. Die-cast aluminum cylinder with open design for excellent heat dissipation and low engine weight.
To reduce mechanical losses and vibration, Kawasaki engineers carefully selected the crank ratio by applying a special carburizing treatment to the crank to improve durability and reduce weight. Due to the low mass of the crankshaft flywheel, a low moment of inertia is achieved, which contributes to the forced nature of the engine and instant acceleration. The deep oil sump ensures that the oil pump inlet is constantly submerged, preventing air from being sucked in even during heavy acceleration and braking during sports or racing riding.
With the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition engineered for high performance, Kawasaki engineers have paid great attention to the engine cooling system for optimum performance. The water jacket on the cylinder head has been specially designed, and the spark plugs with a larger gap between them provide more contact with the water jacket, helping to prevent engine knock. A large 30-row radiator provides efficient engine cooling to keep up with the performance of the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition. Side vents are integrated into the hood to direct cool air towards the engine and help cool it down, greatly enhancing engine performance. Kawasaki’s innovative technologies, such as the patented radiator fan shroud located behind the radiator, direct hot air towards and away from the rider for improved rider comfort. The thermal management system, designed using CFD analysis and controlled airflow, helps keep the fuel tank, frame and other parts in contact with the radiator, further enhancing rider comfort.
The forced air duct is a hallmark of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX models. This is a centrally located air intake that increases filling efficiency and improves engine performance. Following a similar layout to the Ninja H2, the Ram Air duct runs down the left side of the fork on its way to the airbox. This creates efficient airflow ducts that draw cool, high-pressure air from the front of the bike. Engine performance is improved at all speeds by increased pressure and air cooling. In addition, the design is very effective in preventing water from entering the air chamber while riding in the rain. The Ram Air’s large air vents are printed with “Ram Air” lettering visible to the driver, adding to the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition’s high-performance appearance. The 60mm and 40mm long inlet funnel promotes efficient filling and ensures a flat torque curve and smooth power delivery. Downward intake creates a shorter and more direct path for intake air to enter the cylinders, resulting in more efficient cylinder filling and increased engine power, especially at high rpm.
Kawasaki designed the exhaust system for the Ninja ZX-4RR so it was easy to add an optional exhaust muffler. Photo courtesy of Kawasaki.
The header and header pipe layout is inspired by the Ninja® ZX™-6R. Connecting tubes connect to manifolds to help deliver high power output while meeting emission and noise requirements. The traditional-style long muffler produces a clean, lively exhaust sound that is very different from what you hear on a Kawasaki inline-four. Header pipes have triple catalytic converters to match emissions, and their location allows for easy installation of an overhead muffler.
Complementing the high-performance 399cc engine is a smooth-shifting six-speed transmission designed to excel in all driving situations. It is particularly suitable for riders accelerating out of corners during sport or track riding and features a two-way Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) gearshift system. Developed through Kawasaki’s racing efforts, the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition features an assist and slipper clutch that utilizes two types of cams (auxiliary cam and slipper cam) that perform two functions not found in standard clutches. When the engine is running at normal speed, the secondary cam acts as a self-help mechanism, pulling the clutch hub and working disc together to compress the clutch disc. This reduces the overall load on the clutch springs, resulting in less tension on the clutch lever when the clutch is operated. When excessive engine braking occurs, the pad cam is activated, pushing the clutch hub and working disc apart. This relieves pressure on the clutch discs, reducing reverse torque and helping to prevent the rear tire from bouncing or slipping.
Kawasaki’s advanced KTRC system delivers enhanced sporty riding performance as well as peace of mind and confidence when driving on low-traction roads in certain conditions. Three selectable modes provide a gradual increase in intrusion level, reduced fuel consumption and ignition to help maintain traction and propulsion while adapting to the driving situation and driver preferences. The system uses many parameters to obtain an accurate live image and adjusts accordingly. Mode 1 is the least intrusive and designed with sporty driving in mind, mode 2 intervenes earlier to balance sporty driving support and driver confidence, and mode 3 is the least intrusive navigation for low grip conditions. In addition to these three modes, riders also have the option to disable the system.
Power modes offer the rider an easy choice of engine power to suit riding conditions or preference. In addition to the full power mode, a (low) standby mode is available where maximum power is limited and throttle response is smoother.
An all-inclusive mode combining KTRC and power modes allows the rider to easily adjust traction control and power delivery to suit the specific driving situation. Drivers can choose from three settings (Sport, Road, Rain) or a manual setting (Rider). In Manual Rider mode, each system can be configured independently.
In addition to its impressive high performance specs, the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition is also equipped with a double sided KQS. KQS allows for ultra-fast upshifts and downshifts without using the clutch, resulting in a more enjoyable experience and faster lap times. Designed for more efficient sport riding, the KQS can also be used on the street when engine speeds exceed 2500 rpm.
The 4.3-inch full-digital TFT color instrument panel gives the cockpit a high-tech, high-end look and features a chart mode that allows you to measure laps and display track-related information in a more visible and easy-to-view way. The high-quality color LCD screen uses TFT (Thin Film Transient) technology to provide a high level of visibility. Selectable background and text colors can be selected according to light or dark conditions, and the screen brightness automatically switches between five levels according to available light.
Display features include digital speedometer, digital linear tachometer, gear indicator, shift indicator (flashing tachometer), fuel gauge, odometer, dual trip odometer, current and average fuel consumption, mileage remaining, average speed, trip time, coolant temperature , clock, battery voltage, lap timer (only in circuit mode), Kawasaki service reminder, oil change reminder, integrated driving modes, KTRC and Power Mode indicators, smartphone call and mail notifications, Bluetooth indicator, economical driving indicator and KQS indicator.
Track mode can be switched for use on track day, and the display has been redesigned to make track information more visible. This includes displaying lap times in large text in the center to facilitate preparation while riding. Above 10,000 rpm, the gear position and tachometer display are also better visible from above, giving the driver a clear view of the information they need as they strive to lap the track faster.
Built into the dashboard, Bluetooth® technology allows riders to wirelessly connect to their motorcycle. With the RIDEOLOGY THE APP*, you can access, record and view many of the instrument’s functions to enhance your motorcycle experience. You can view the following information:
The application can also be used away from the motorcycle. While riding (with the app open), the bike and smartphone are always connected and the app records the trip log data. After the trip, the app saves the latest trip information, which can be viewed on the smartphone. Any changes made through the app while the engine is off or out of range will take effect as soon as the ignition is turned on and the smartphone is in range of the app.

The Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition is light and nimble for city riding, but its premium supersport character shines when it comes to off-road or trail riding. Using feedback directly from the Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) in the FIM Superbike World Championship, Kawasaki engineers carefully selected key chassis components to achieve an outstanding stiffness balance. The lattice frames are made of high strength steel and come in a variety of thicknesses of tubes and hinged pendulum sections. Kawasaki’s Advanced Dynamic Stiffness Analysis is used to provide the right balance of chassis strength and flexibility.
Key chassis dimensions such as center of gravity position, swingarm pivot position, motor shaft position and wheel angle were inspired by the Kawasaki World Superbike Ninja® ZX™-10RR, which takes World Superbike chassis design to the 400cc class. The long swingarm, made from high-strength steel, allows you to adjust the weight distribution of the motorcycle between the front and rear for the perfect balance of agility and chassis performance. The arched design on the right side of the swingarm provides the right balance of stiffness and flexibility to position the muffler as close to the center as possible while adding a sleek and sporty look to the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition.

To complement the optimum balance of chassis stiffness, the front end of the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition is supported by a 37mm inverted front fork with Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork-Big Piston) technology. This advanced fork combines track performance with day-to-day comfort. This technology is similar to that used in the Ninja ZX-6R, and the spring rate and damping characteristics have been developed specifically for the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition. The fork provides a smooth ride in the early stages of travel, which contributes to excellent composure when braking. The SFF-BP fork has a large diameter damper piston, much larger than cartridge forks. This allows the oil inside the fork to act on a larger surface area and reduce damping pressure while still providing the same damping force. By reducing the damping pressure, the slider moves more smoothly, especially in the initial part of the stroke. This design provides better control when the fork begins to compress and a smoother transition when the weight of the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition moves forward when decelerating, providing better chassis stability and braking when cornering. Feeling of pedaling while driving. The fork setup is designed for a wide range of riding conditions, from the city to the track. Spring preload is adjustable to tailor it to rider preference, and for the first time in the 400cc class, an adjustable SFF-BP is used.

In the back of the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition, you can find a horizontal rear arm rear suspension mounted on a Showa BFRC (No Balance Rear Cushion) Lite shock. The shocks are similar to those of the Ninja ZX-10R and tuned specifically for the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition. Its excellent early-stroke movement provides comfort for everyday riding as well as a confidence-inspiring feel when riding on the trails, while the linear damping characteristics provide the rider with a stable, secure feel and a wide range of peace of mind in every situation. In addition, it offers adjustable compression and rebound damping, as well as adjustable spring preload, so riders can fine-tune the rear end to suit their driving preferences. Horizontal Rear Link In the rear suspension, the shock and link are located above the swingarm, away from the engine and exhaust heat. The stiff rear shock provides a grounded feel that is reassuring for sporty riding, while also providing enough cushioning for comfortable city riding.
To bring the mighty Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition to a halt, a pair of 290mm semi-floating front discs act as the front brake clamped by 4-piston radially mounted monobloc calipers. The calipers have pistons of different diameters, the top piston is 32mm and the bottom piston is 30mm. Opt for dual front discs for extra stopping power, while integral calipers provide a secure initial touch. The choice of pads affects braking performance and brake controllability.

At the rear, a 220mm disc is driven by a single-piston caliper driven by 38mm pistons. The materials of the brake master cylinder, calipers, brake pedal and pads have been carefully chosen to balance stopping power and control. The Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition with ABS features Nissin’s latest ABS control unit, which has been designed for precise control and is the smallest and lightest unit available.
Stylish, star-shaped, five-spoke wheels contribute to the bike’s overall light weight, while their high stiffness improves handling. The wheels also give the bike a light and agile feel. Dunlop Sportmax® GPR-300 radial tires front and rear provide high grip in both wet and dry conditions, contributing to agility and superior ride comfort. Tires 120/70ZR17 are installed on the front wheels, and 160/60ZR17 tires on the rear.

To take full advantage of the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition’s nimble, super-sporty handling, an aggressive riding position was naturally chosen, with more forward lean than the Ninja 400. The Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition’s seating position offers a good balance of wind protection and aerodynamics, allowing the rider to shelter from the wind while maintaining a relaxed feel. The slim design of the tank between the rider’s legs promotes good contact with the bike, while the low profile of the top of the tank helps the rider to stow. The durable saddle combines sporting potential with comfort. The seat allows the rider to easily carry weight during sport or track riding and adds comfort on long journeys. Supersport-style footpegs give the rider a direct feel and good handling during sporty riding. Adjustable brake and clutch levers have five positions, allowing riders to set them to suit hand size and preference.
Aggressive styling of the Ninja The Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition is designed to provide a ferocious look that combines its power with the explosive power that sets off the most powerful machine in the 400cc class. The pressurized air intake, located in the center of the upper fairing, is a hallmark of the Ninja ZX models and sets this machine apart from the competition. It has “Ram Air” printed on it, a testament to the bike’s high performance. A sharp chin spoiler further enhances the powerful image of the ninja family. A super-sport low fuel tank and minimalistic slim bodywork surrounding the inline-four engine give the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition a compact and premium look. Angled lines create a lightweight look that reflects the agility of a supersport bike. The side air vents in the fairing combine form and function, channeling cool air into the engine and adding aggressive lines to the sleek design. The curved corners of the slim, race-style tailgate add to the lightweight look, and the tailgate can be easily removed for track days.
Dual LED headlights make the Ninja ZX-4RR KRT Edition stand out and provide excellent illumination, while LED front indicators are integrated into the fairing. Inspired by the Ninja ZX-10R, the LED taillight gives the bike a premium look. The license plate lights and rear turn signals are LED to complement the LED package.
